Security expert Troy Hunt has loaded the email addresses found in the leaked South African database onto his site Have I Been Pwned.
The email addresses were taken from a massive database leak which revealed the private data of 30 million South Africans.
Hunt said he received the data as a 27.2GB MySQL backup called “masterdeeds.sql”.
“I’ve now loaded the email addresses only for the South African Master Deeds breach,” said Hunt.
“Note that there are only 2.2 million email addresses, but tens of millions of actual identities in the source database.”
“I can’t help those who have questions around whether they were in the data set if their email address doesn’t show up,” he said.
“This South African data breach is one of the worst I’ve ever seen on many levels,” Hunt previously said on Twitter.
“The data included extensive personal attributes such as names, addresses, ethnicities, genders, birth dates, government-issued personal identification numbers, and 2.2 million email addresses.”
