NYSE website hobbled

A company that monitors website response times says The New York Stock Exchange’s website was hobbled twice Monday, possibly the result of computer attacks.

A San Mateo-based company called Keynote Systems Inc. says the NYSE website experienced a one-minute outage around 3:30 p.m. Eastern (1930 GMT), then a half-hour outage about two hours later.

The loosely organized Anonymous hacking group has threatened an attack on the NYSE as part of anti-Wall Street protests.

Some protesters have objected because of the impression the hack would leave about the movement as a whole.

NYSE spokesman Ray Pellecchia said there was no interruption during the first time period. He said he couldn’t immediately comment on performance during the second time period.

Trading operations at the NYSE were not affected.
