Facebook security exploit leaks Zuckerberg’s private images
A security hole has allowed access to Facebook users’ private photos through simply reporting their profile picture as pornography.
Discussed by members of an online bodybuilding forum, once you have reported a profile picture on Facebook, the social media site offers you the ability to view all of that users images – which you can then select and mark as porn. These images can be viewed in full resolution and saved to your computer.
Mark Zuckerberg was the most prominent target of the exploit, with 13 images of the Facebook founder appearing online. In the photos, Zuckerberg can be seen meeting with Barack Obama, engaging in culinary activities, and holding a freshly slaughtered chicken.
The exploit has since been patched, and Facebook has officially responded:
“Earlier today, we discovered a bug in one of our reporting flows that allows people to report multiple instances of inappropriate content simultaneously. The bug allowed anyone to view a limited number of another user’s most recently uploaded photos irrespective of the privacy settings for these photos. This was the result of one of our recent code pushes and was live for a limited period of time.
“Upon discovering the bug, we immediately disabled the system, and will only return functionality once we can confirm the bug has been fixed.”
