Vumacam announces 6,000-camera Gauteng government partnership

Vumacam has announced a partnership with Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) to provide the province access to its extensive camera network and advanced crime-fighting technologies.

Through the partnership, the GPG will have immediate access to an expansive network of over 6,000 cameras in Gauteng and access to partner cameras nationwide.

“In addition to the extensive network already available within Gauteng, Vumacam also has access to another 5,000 partner cameras across South Africa, which would ensure any known vehicle involved in a criminal activity in another province would trigger an immediate alert if seen by the cameras within Gauteng,” the company said.

Furthermore, GPG and Vumacam committed to extending camera coverage to underserved areas, particularly within townships, informal settlements, and hostel areas.

Through the partnership, the Gauteng Department of eGovernment will provide integrated CCTV Cameras as a Service to all its clients.

The partnership builds on the success of existing public sector collaborations that employ Vumacam’s technology, including the Integrated Intelligence Operations Centre (IIOC), which sees Vumacam work with the JMPD in Johannesburg.

That partnership, which forms part of the Eyes and Ears (E2) Initiative between Business Against Crime South Africa (BACSA) and the South African Police Service (SAPS) has already delivered successes in the fight against crime.

Vumacam says the partnership has seen over 400 interceptions registered across Gauteng monthly.

“We believe that the alerts from our extensive network delivered through our world-class software platform, and verified by expertly trained operators will result in a new normal in the fight against crime in South Africa’s economic heartland,” said Vumacam CEO Ricky Croock.

“As we continue to foster collaboration to fight crime between the private and public sector through technology, we continue to invest in and grow our infrastructure and platform,” he said.

Croock said this provides lifesaving and actionable intelligence in real-time to the people who put their lives on the line every day.

“We believe we can help South Africa become a safer place through the power of video and technology, delivered by a centralised platform that connects disparate operators, and that will become the de-facto standard in all control rooms.”
