VLC media player security problem
Users of the popular free video player, VLC Media Player, should update the programme to plug a security vulnerability that could make it possible for attackers to execute malicious code.
This is the advice of Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and applies to all versions of the open-source software before the current 2.0.5 version.
Microsoft plugs eleven security holes
Microsoft has provided seven software updates in this month’s patch day.
Users can install the patches to plug eleven security vulnerabilities in Windows and other Microsoft programmes.
Affected are Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8 as well as the NET Framework, Sharepoint Server 2007, Office 2003 and 2007 and some Office tools. If the automatic Windows update function is activated, users need take no further action.
