Web security company Blue Coat has released a new report, detailing that nearly a quarter of all smartphone malware comes from porn websites.
This despite the fact, according to Blue Coat, that only 1% of smartphone users access porn site from their devices. This makes viewing porn on a smartphone riskier than doing so on a PC, says Blue Coat.
Shortened site links viewed on a smartphone may obscure their malicious destination, the security company explained.
“No matter how tantalizing a link might look on a desktop, there are cues that you shouldn’t go there, such as an address that just doesn’t look safe. When you click a link on a mobile phone, it’s harder to know what form of Russian roulette they’re playing,” said Hugh Thompson, chief security strategist for Blue Coat.
