Nokia Lumia 630 price, 930 launch date for SA

Microsoft South Africa’s devices division announced, at an event in Johannesburg on 26 June 2014, that the Nokia Lumia 630 has launched in South Africa and the Nokia Lumia 930 would soon be available to the local market.

The Lumia 630 was “shipping as we speak,” Patrick Henchie, head of products for South and East Africa, said, and is expected to be available from July at a recommended price of R1,999.

It will be occupying the price point left behind by the older Nokia Lumia 520 smartphone, which Henchie said they plan to keep in market at the lower suggested retail price of R1,499.

While Microsoft could not announce the exact launch date of the Nokia Lumia 930, Henchie said they expect it to arrive in South Africa by the end of Q3 2014 – hopefully by September.

It will ship with the new version of Microsoft’s mobile operating system, Windows Phone 8.1 and will be “a true flagship for the platform”, Henchie said.

The below table summarises the specs for the three devices mentioned by Microsoft during the event:
