Although the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini is only expected to launch in South Africa during the first week of August 2014, those interested in the device can already buy it from Orange from R5,870.
Esquire has also opened pre-orders for the device at around R6,155 (R5,399 excl. VAT). The deal is available until Saturday, 2 August 2014, with Esquire saying it expects to fulfil pre-orders later this week (Sunday, 27 July – Saturday, 2 August 2014).
Those who want to buy the device through a network operator may also register their interest on Cellucity’s website, which lets you choose whether you want to buy it on prepaid, a new contract, or as an upgrade.
Samsung first announced the Galaxy S5 Mini in a press statement on 1 July 2014, saying that the device would be available in Russia in early July, with plans to expand to the global market from there.
Though there are many similarities between the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Mini, those expecting a version of the S5 with a smaller screen may be disappointed.
Like the Galaxy S5, the Mini includes:
- IP67 dust proofing and water resistance
- Ultra Power Saving mode
- a heart rate monitor
- a fingerprint scanner
However, as the table below shows, the Mini has lower-spec internals than the Galaxy S5.
