iPhone 6 trade-in deals comparison

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus launched in South Africa this morning, Friday, 24 October 2014, and are available from a number of technology retailers and on contract from all South Africa’s mobile network operators.
Retailers such as iStore, DionWired, and Incredible Connection are also offering trade-ins on old iPhones, with discounts or store credit of up to R4,731 for an iPhone 5s available.
iStores trade-ins are available to anyone buying a new iPhone – whether they take out a new contract, upgrade or renew an existing contract, or buy a new iPhone cash.
New contracts, renewals, and upgrades will receive the cash by EFT. For a cash purchase, the value will be discounted from the price of the new iPhone.
To qualify for the iStore trade-in programme, iPhone owners due for an upgrade before 28 February 2014 need to register for a voucher on the iStore website.
iStore dropped the maximum values on trade-ins by between 12% and 25% recently, so it is interesting to see how this deal compares to other options available in South Africa and abroad.
DionWired and Incredible Connection were asked to provide their maximum trade-in values for various iPhone models, and DionWired obliged with the information (which is summarised in the table below).
A spokesperson for the retailer also highlighted that DionWired’s Tech Trade-In service offers trades-in deals for most major makes and models of cellphones, tablets, iPods, and gaming consoles.
Trade-ins are redeemed for in-store credit in the form of a voucher which can be used on any purchase within the store.
As with iStore, the exact value of the trade-in depends on the condition of the device. Customers should also bring in all the accessories that came with a device (such as chargers and earphones) to get the best trade-in value.
DionWired’s full terms and conditions for trade-ins are on its website.
The spokesperson added that the trade-in values were correct as of 23 October 2014 and are subject to change.
