WhatsApp voice calling is here for Android
Android smartphone owners can now access WhatsApp’s much-anticipated voice over Internet Protocol feature without needing to be invited.
Though the feature is yet to make it to the Google Play store, users who install the latest version of WhatsApp straight from the WhatsApp website, or APK Mirror, have reported they now have access to voice calling.
Our own testing has verified this to be the case.
News of WhatsApp voice calling becoming available to Android users comes after the messaging service made it available on an “invitation basis”.
Android users were able to install the latest version of the WhatsApp and receive access to voice calling when someone who already had voice calling phoned them through WhatsApp voice.
VentureBeat also recently reported that WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton said on 25 March 2015 the iOS version of the mobile messaging service would get VoIP functionality in a “couple weeks”.
