Google unveils 5X smartphone

Google has unveiled its 5X smartphone at an event in San Francisco.

The smartphone is made by LG and features a 5.2-inch Gorilla Glass-covered display with a 1080p resolution.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 chip is the base on which the phone’s 64-bit processor is built, which is powered by a 2,700mAh battery.

A fingerprint scanner and USB Type-C port are also included, along with a 12MP camera that can shoot 120fps slow-motion video and 4K video.

The device will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which is due to be released in the first week of October.

Android 6.0 will feature Doze mode, which tells apps to use less power when the phone detects it has not been moved for a while.

Pricing and availability

The Nexus 5X comes in Carbon Black, Sports White, and Ice Blue colours, and will launch in late October.

Pricing for the 5X starts at $379.
