PuzzlePhone – a smartphone you can customize, upgrade, and repair

PuzzlePhone

Finnish startup Circular Devices has announced that its PuzzlePhone modular smartphone is nearing a commercial release, and has opened crowdfunding to support the initiative.

The PuzzlePhone is a “long-lasting smartphone with three easy-to-change modules”, allowing owners to customise, upgrade, and repair their phones.

The three changeable modules – the screen, the main electronics, and the battery – means the phone can last up to 10 years, according to its makers.

“Replace PuzzlePhone modules as they reach technological obsolescence or wear out – but don’t throw out the phone,” the company said.

“We’ve chosen the Indiegogo platform for crowdfunding, and in our campaign will showcase our working demonstrator in action.”

The Very Early Bird pledge for the first 250 PuzzlePhones is €299, after which the price increases to €399.

Once those units run out, the PuzzlePhone will be available on Indiegogo at €449 and €499 – depending on storage configuration.
