Google lowers minimum app price in South Africa

Google has announced a lower minimum purchase price for apps and in-app products on Google Play.

Google said that every market has its own challenges and opportunities, and purchasing behaviour varies significantly between markets.

“So to provide developers with more flexibility, we’ve worked to adapt Google Play pricing options to better suit local consumers and make content more accessible,” said Google.

Developers now have the option to reduce the price of their premium titles and in-app products in 17 additional countries, including South Africa.

In South Africa, the minimum price for an app is now R3.99 – down from the previous R10.00.
