BlackBerry PRIV upgrade to Android Marshmallow released

BlackBerry has released the Android 6.0 Marshmallow mobile operating system for its Android-powered PRIV smartphone.

Existing PRIV users will be able to upgrade to Android 6.0 by downloading the software update on their device.

BlackBerry promised improvements to the following elements of the PRIV’s software:

  • Mobile security.
  • New ways to monitor and control which of your data apps have access to.
  • BlackBerry keyboard.
  • BlackBerry Hub.
  • BlackBerry launcher.

The upgrade will also improve battery performance and add features to the PRIV’s camera, said BlackBerry.

BlackBerry PRIV’s keyboard will receive more emoji, swipe-based gesture typing, better word predictions, and finer cursor control through tapping on physical keys.

The camera will receive the ability to capture slow-motion video – without audio at this time – at 120 frames per second.
