Nokia cellphones are coming back

Nokia has announced that it will license its brand and intellectual property to a new company called HMD global, which will produce a range of Android smartphones and tablets.

HMD global will be headed up by former Nokia and Microsoft employee Arto Nummela, and has struck a deal with Microsoft to use the Nokia name on its cellphones.

The deal is expected to be finalised by the end of June, with Foxconn’s subsidiary FIH Mobile set to collaborate with HMD to build “a global business for Nokia-branded mobile phones and tablets”.

“We will be completely focussed on creating a unified range of Nokia-branded mobile phones and tablets, which we know will resonate with consumers,” said Nummela.
