Samsung Galaxy Note 7 delayed

Samsung Galaxy Note 7

Samsung has delayed shipments of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone amid reports of exploding batteries.

According to Reuters, Samsung said the delay in shipping the new devices was to allow for quality control testing.

Quality issues for the Note 7 could deal a major blow to Samsung, stated the report, as the company was counting on the smartphone to compete again Apple’s expected launch of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus in September.

South Africa has already experienced a delay in the Note 7’s arrival, with Samsung stating the local launch of the device would happen on 23 September 2016.

The device was originally set to launch in South Africa on 2 September, with the date moved due to “overwhelming global demand”.
