iPhone 7 vs Samsung Galaxy S7 — the royal rumble of smartphones

Apple has unveiled the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, the latest iteration of its flagship phone that is to go on sale as Samsung is struggling with battery issues on its new Note 7.

Among a host of new features, the iPhone 7 range now carries an water resistant ingress protection (IP) rating, and promises significantly improved cameras.

In addition to using a new Apple-designed image signal processor, the new iPhones will support RAW file formats for photos.

The iPhone 7 Plus will also have two lenses on the back — one standard 28mm wide-angle f/1.8 camera, and a 56mm telephoto lens with a f/2.8 aperture.

A comparison of the specifications of the iPhone 7 and Samsung’s high-end Galaxy devices is shown in the tables below.

Not shown in the tables is that Apple confirmed that the iPhone 7 will not include a 3.5mm headset jack. Instead it will rely on its Lightning port and wireless audio.

The Galaxy range by contrast includes 3.5mm headphone jacks, and come with USB ports: micro USB on the Galaxy S7 range, and USB Type-C on the Note 7.
