Facebook Messenger Lite launched
Facebook has announced Messenger Lite, a slimmed-down, stand-alone version of the company’s Messenger app for Android.
It offers the core features of Messenger for people in places with slower than average internet speeds and a prevalence of basic Android smartphones.
Messenger Lite is under 10MB and uses the same bolt logo as Messenger, but with colors reversed.
Those on Messenger Lite can send text, photos, and links to anyone using Messenger or Messenger Lite. You can also receive stickers on Messenger Lite, but you can’t send them.
Messenger Lite has started to roll out to people in Kenya, Tunisia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Venezuela. Other countries will receive the app in the coming months, Facebook said.
