Samsung has permanently discontinued its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone, following multiple cases of the device bursting into flames.
Samsung sent a media statement to international publications claiming that the decision was made for the sake of consumer safety.
It said production of the Note 7 has been ceased, which follow instructions from the company to Note 7 owners to stop using their devices.
Samsung was forced to initiate a massive recall of the Note 7 following multiple reports of the device bursting into flames.
Replacement devices were given to customers, but several incidents of the new devices catching alight were soon reported.
The Galaxy Note 7 was set to launch in South Africa on 11 November.
This came after Samsung resumed sales of the Galaxy Note 7 on 1 October in Korea.
