Telkom is pushing out a firmware update to Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, and Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge devices on its network.
The latest firmware upgrade was approved at the end of October, with certificates issued on 31 October 2016.
The Galaxy S7 range on Telkom was previously stuck on an old firmware version from May, and the company said it was on an open-market version of the firmware.
“Other operators use mandated firmware which falls under Europe and therefore get the updates a month before the MEA region,” said Telkom spokesperson Jacqui O’Sullivan.
“The open market (MEA) firmware is used by multiple networks across the world and we are in sync with that release schedule.”
With the update, Galaxy S6 and S7 devices on Telkom are on Samsung’s 1 October 2016 security patch level.
Looking up the AP (G935FXXU1BPJE) and CSC (G935FOJV1BPH4) provided by Telkom, it is using the same firmware that was rolled out on 27 October by operators in Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
