Android vs iPhone in South Africa – the winner is clear

Vodacom recently announced its interim results for the six months ended 30 September 2016, which showed that its number of active 4G and LTE subscribers on the network increased to 3.6 million.

It also showed that the average monthly data usage on smart devices increased 14.4% to 629MB.

The company told MyBroadband it now has 12.4 million smartphones, 1.7 million tablets, and 1 million data cards and modems on its network.

Android is by far the most popular smartphone operating system, accounting for 67% of all devices. The next closest is BlackBerry with 11%, followed by Apple’s iOS with 7%.

In the tablet market, Android’s dominance is even greater – with 86% market share. 12% of tablets on Vodacom are iPads.
