Facebook adds mentions and reactions to Messenger

Facebook has announced that Messenger users can now mention their friends in chats and react to messages with emoji.

Message Reactions allow chat participants to react to messages.

To react to a message, press and hold the message and then tap to select an appropriate emoji.

Reactions function in a similar manner to those on Facebook’s Timeline, with the number of people who reacted and the reactions selected displayed in the lower corner of a message.

Messenger will also notify you on your lock screen when chat participants react to your message.

Users are also able to mention individual people in group chats, which will push a new notification to the recipient’s device.

Messenger users will be able to disable notifications for Reactions and Mentions in the Messenger app.
