Apple launching iPhone screen repair machines – Report

Cracked Screen

Apple plans to launch proprietary machines which can repair cracked glass on iPhones, Reuters reported.

The machines will roll out to 400 authorised third-party repair centres in 25 countries.

Called the Horizon Machine, Apple has guarded its design closely and previously restricted it to its retail stores and repair centres.

According to the report, the initial roll-out aims to put machines in about 200 of Apple’s 4,800 authorised service providers around the world.

Apple then plans to double that figure by the end of 2017.

The Horizon Machine is used for difficult repairs – such as when the fingerprint sensor gets damaged in a drop – stated the report.

To ensure security, only Apple’s machine can instruct the iPhone’s built-in security hardware to recognise the new sensor.
