Samsung’s latest acquisition may bring Bixby a step closer

Samsung’s virtual assistant Bixby was launched earlier this year and was punted as one of the main features of the Galaxy S8 smartphone, but the service is yet to roll out.

According to a report by Engadget, the wait may be shortened by Samsung’s recent acquisition of a Greek text-to-speech startup called Innoetics.

Innoetics’ software includes a voice-to-speech system, and the company has a library of 29 synthetic voices in 15 languages.

Samsung will be particularly interested in Innoetics’ “English US” voice program, stated the report.

An English version of Bixby is reportedly being delayed as the company does not have the required “big data” to make it work.
