Vodacom to launch contracts for Xiaomi smartphones

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

Vodacom will sell Xiaomi smartphones – including Mi and Redmi devices – on contract from November.

This is according to the CEO of Mobile in Africa, RJ Van Spaandonk. The group distributes Xiaomi devices in South Africa.

When Mobile in Africa launched the Xiaomi smartphones locally in 2015, it went to market with MTN.

While MTN did not take on Xiaomi’s newer devices, Mobile in Africa secured a deal with Afrihost to offer its smartphones with Afrihost mobile packages.

“[Now] Vodacom is starting to throw its weight behind the Xiaomi brand,” said Van Spaandonk.

Van Spaandonk said Vodacom has indicated it wants to offer the full range of Xiaomi devices MIA brings into the country.

“South Africans will be able to get really affordable contracts on Xiaomi devices from next month.”

Package pricing has not yet been finalised, but they will announce contract prices when the details with Vodacom have been finalsied.
