Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 coming to South Africa

Mobile in Africa Group (MIA) said the Mi Mix 2 will launch in South Africa and will likely retail for around R10,500.

“That is what Xiaomi tries to do – it offers premium features, but comes in 40% to 50% cheaper than current flagships,” said MIA CEO RJ van Spaandonk, referencing the iPhone X’s expected price.

A launch date for South Africa has not been set, however.

Xiaomi unveiled the Mi Mix 2 on 11 September. The bezel-less devices is the sequel to the concept device Xiaomi unveiled last year.

The original Mi Mix was designed by Philippe Starck, had a ceramic back, and did without an earpiece – using cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology instead.

For the Mi Mix 2, Xiaomi has put the standard earpiece back – without sacrificing the all-screen aesthetic of the device.

Xiaomi also introduced a non-ceramic version of the device, which is the one MIA plans to bring to South Africa.
