Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has announced that their next flagship smartphone will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 mobile platform.

“Ever since our inception, we have collaborated with Qualcomm,” said Jun.

The news followed Qualcomm announcing the launch of the Snapdragon 845 system-on-chip.

While few details about the platform were announced, Qualcomm said the first smartphones based on its new chips are due later this year.

The Snapdragon 845 platform will deliver improved performance, and focus on machine learning and improved imaging.

It will be paired with Qualcomm’s X20 LTE modem, offering up to gigabit connectivity on networks that support Category 18 LTE.

There are currently 238 million Xiaomi mobile phones powered by Qualcomm processors.
