Facial recognition on other smartphones stinks, according to Apple’s marketing chief Phil Schiller.
According to Softpedia, Schiller said Face ID on the iPhone X provides “super-advanced functionality that no other smartphone can offer right now”.
Schiller made the comments when asked about the iPhone X’s features.
Apple’s decision to add Face ID to the iPhone X has come under fire from industry players, especially as the company made the addition at the expense of a fingerprint sensor and a home button.
The lack of fingerprint sensor and lack of app compatibility with the Face ID system means that certain banking apps, for example, require users to enter their login name and password – where previously they could unlock the app with their fingerprint alone.
