New Huawei Y Series smartphones launched in South Africa
Huawei South Africa has launched its new mid-range Y Series smartphones in the country.
“Recently, the performance of mid-range phones has dramatically improved and Huawei has decided to bring these key features to the South African market,” said Likun Zhao, Vice President Huawei Consumer Business Group Southern Africa.
“In today’s market, the devices competing in the same price range as the new Y Series often deliver uninspiring experiences,” said Zhao.
The Y Series offers users the features they need while providing a high-end experience, he said.
“Although the Huawei Y Series is a line of affordable handsets targeting the price-sensitive youth segment, every device in the range is packed full of features.”
This includes large displays, Android 8.0 with the EMUI skin, high-end cameras, and face unlock on certain devices.
South African pricing for the devices is as follows:

- Y6 2018 – R2,499
- Y5 Prime 2018 – R1,999
- Y3 2018 – R999
