Samsung has launched its new Galaxy A series smartphones in South Africa, which offer flagship features in the mid-range smartphone sector.

Speaking at an event in Sandton, Johannesburg, Samsung Africa CEO Sung Yoon announced that the Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A50 would be available for purchase locally.

The Galaxy A30 features 4GB of RAM with 64GB of internal storage, while the Galaxy A50 also has 4GB of RAM with 128GB of internal storage.

Samsung’s new Galaxy A Series smartphones sport the company’s Infinity-U display design, which comprises of a bezel-less panel with a cutout at the top of the screen for a single camera.

Both devices feature 4,000mAh batteries in addition to advanced camera systems.

Mid-range with a flagship design

The Samsung Galaxy A30 features a dual camera system which consists of a 16MP main lens and a 5MP ultra-wide lens .

The Galaxy A50 boasts three cameras on the rear of the device, comprising of a 25MP main lens, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 5MP depth-sensing camera.

Samsung has placed a capacitive fingerprint sensor on the rear of the Galaxy A30, while the Galaxy A50 features an in-screen fingerprint sensor similar to that of the recently-launched Galaxy S10 Series.

The Galaxy A10 and A20 devices retain the same Infinity-U design as the A30 and A50, but feature lower display resolutions and less-powerful hardware to meet their lower price points.

Galaxy A70, A80, and A2 Core

Samsung has listed specifications for the Galaxy A10, Galaxy A20, Galaxy A30, and Galaxy A50 on its local website, but there are no official specifications available for its new Galaxy A70, A80, or A2 Core devices yet.

The Galaxy A2 Core features an extremely attractive price point, bringing a high-quality camera experience and a robust design to the lower-end smartphone sector.

The Galaxy A80 boasts a flagship chassis and display design topped off by a slide-up, triple-lens camera which can flip between functioning as a main camera and a front-facing camera.

This camera module boasts a 48MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a TOF 3D module for improved depth sensing.

The Samsung Galaxy A70 is a hybrid between a value-focused smartphone and a flagship device, offering great battery life and specifications at a price point competitive with other value flagships in the South African market.
