iPhone 16 pre-orders in South Africa — contract and cash price details
South African retailers and mobile network operators have opened pre-orders for the iPhone 16 lineup, with prices starting at R20,599 to buy outright through Computer Mania and R999 per month over 36 months on contract through Vodacom.
Apple unveiled its latest line of iPhones during its “Glowtime” event on Monday, 9 September 2024. The most notable change over the previous generation was a dedicated camera control button and the promise of increased functionality through Apple Intelligence.
This is the first year South African customers will get the new devices at the same time as Apple’s main markets, such as the United States.
Pre-orders across these markets opened today, and the devices will ship to customers on 20 September.
Vodacom’s pre-order pricing starts at R999 per month for the base iPhone 16 over a three-year contract period and R1,149 per month for the iPhone 16 Pro over the same contract period.
The mobile network operator doesn’t specify starting prices for the iPhone 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Vodacom’s deals also include a two-year warranty on the device.
Computer Mania lists cash prices for the iPhone 16 lineup on its website, excluding the iPhone 16 Plus.
The standard iPhone 16 with 128GB of storage costs R20,599, while the 256GB configuration costs R2,900 more.
Computer Mania’s pricing for the iPhone 16 Pro starts at R25,899 for the 128GB configuration. Those who buy the iPhone 16 Pro with 256GB will pay R28,399.
It lists one configuration for the iPhone 16 Pro, the 256GB storage configuration, which is priced at R31,099.
Digicape lists pricing for all four members of the iPhone 16 lineup. Its starting prices are slightly higher than those of Computer Mania.
However, it says iPhone 16 purchases come with R2,400 worth of “free added value” and a two-year DPP basic warranty.
Its iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus pricing starts at R21,049 and R23,999, respectively. The higher-specced Pro and Pro Max start at R26,499 and R31,799.
