HTC One gets firmer SA launch window
Vodacom and Telkom Mobile plan to offer the HTC One, spokespeople for the two operators have told MyBroadband.
HTC announced its new Android flagship in February 2013, listing Vodacom and Cell C among the 185 carriers that are to sell the device.
However, according to reports the Taiwanese manufacturer has struggled to secure enough supply for the components it needs to make the device.
According to Vodacom, the HTC One will be available by mid-May 2013, but details will only be announced closer to the time of launch.
Virgin Mobile, on the other hand, is not looking to range the HTC One at this stage. This doesn’t preclude them from reconsidering and offering it at a later stage, a spokesperson for the virtual operator said.
Karin Fourie, executive head of communications at Cell C said that they are not in a position to provide any information at this stage.
It is understood that the device first has to undergo testing on the network, after which a network decides whether to “range” (or commit to buy stock of) a device.
MTN did not respond by the time of publication.
