Nokia Lumia 928 confirmed, boasts PureView camera tech

Nokia’s Lumia range of Windows-powered phones has gone from strength to strength, bringing the Nokia brand back out of the red and keeping the company afloat. The Lumia family spans over many price ranges and even the cheaper, older Windows 7.8-running Lumias are great value for money. Nokia’s Lumia line powered by Windows Phone 8 is also very popular with buyers, but despite the excellent camera on the Lumia 920, something was lacking.

What was lacking is the camera internals of the Symbian-powered 808 Smartphone. Boasting a 41MP sensor with Xenon Flash, intelligent zoom levels and some of Nokia’s camera tricks, it’s a handset that can shame many a point-and-shoot camera and it’s one of Nokia’s greatest achievements. But the PureView camera technology didn’t make the cut for inclusion in the Lumia lines, until now.

The Lumia 928 is a bit larger than the 920 and features the same polycarbonate body shell with Gorilla glass protecting the front screen. As captured above by Evleaks, it will work on 4G networks and carries the PureView branding. The biggest part of the reveal, though, is the Xenon flash at the back. Too many a smartphone has been outdone by low light conditions, where the manufacturers were more intent on saving money than allowing owners the use of a proper Xenon flash to shoot pictures in low light without a care in the world.

The Lumia 928 will probably feature a camera sensor slightly upgraded from the 920, a larger battery and more built-in memory. As many owners of the 808 PureView discovered that the raw, 40MP images could eat up the phone’s space within a week without a SD card for storage.

Sharp-eyed Nokia fans in the US have also spotted billboards that have gone up around the country, boasting about the low-light capabilities of the 928. The logo is also for Verizon, who appears to have exclusive access to the phone for prospective buyers.

Nokia is holding a Lumia event for 14 May 2013 in London at an as-yet-undisclosed time. This comes a day before the start of the Google I/O conference, where its expected that Motorola makes a comeback into the smartphone market entirely powered by Android.
