HTC First Facebook Home phone future uncertain

BGR, citing a trusted source, is reporting that AT&T is dropping the HTC First, the smartphone manufacturer’s Facebook Home flagship device.

Within a month of launch, AT&T reduced the price of the First to $0.99.

BGR says that AT&T will be returning the unsold devices to HTC.

Facebook Home is a software UI layer for Android devices that sees the social network making itself ubiquitous across a device’s lock-screen and home-screens.

It’s certainly for those who love everything Facebook; and for the rest it’s avoided as not much more than a device invasion.

If these BGR reports are true, it doesn’t bode well for Facebook’s first foray into a Facebook-centric device.

However, CNET is reporting that their source who is “intimately familiar with the dealings between AT&T and HTC” says that there are no plans to stop selling the HTC First.

An AT&T representative told CNET: “As mentioned previously, we do pricing promotions all the time and have made no decisions on future plans.”
