Apple officially announced the iPhone 5C at a special media event held at its headquarters in Cupertino, California on Tuesday, 10 September 2013.

Confirming the rumours that surfaced ahead of the launch of the device, the iPhone 5C will have full LTE support, and be available in 5 colours and 2 size models.

The back and sides are made from a single hard-coated polycarbonate part, according to Apple’s Phil Schiller, while the front is a single-part glass multi-touch surface.

The front of the iPhone 5C is black, while the back can be either blue, green, red, yellow, or white.

According to Apple, the colours of iOS 7 and the colour of your phone will match out of the box.

Schiller said that the iPhone 5C has virtually the same spec sheet as the iPhone 5.

One notable exception is improved LTE support, which he said is better than any other smartphone in the world.

The 16GB iPhone 5C will be available for $99 on contract and $199 for the 32GB model, Schiller said.

Pre-orders for 5C open on 13 September2013. On 20 September, the 5C will be available for purchase in US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore, and the UK.

By December 2013, 100 countries and 270 carriers will have the iPhone 5C, Apple said.
