iPhone 5s LTE in testing on Telkom Mobile

Telkom Mobile is testing the Long Term Evolution (LTE) capabilities of the newly announced iPhone 5s and 5c on its network.

Unlike Vodacom, MTN, and Neotel, Telkom Mobile has deployed its LTE network on the 2,300MHz band in a time-division (TD-LTE) configuration.

A feature now available on specific models of iPhone 5s and 5c is 2,300MHz TD-LTE support. Earlier versions of the iPhone did not support the 2,300MHz band, let alone TD-LTE.

However, it is understood that Telkom Mobile is still in the very early stages of testing the iPhone 5s and 5c on its LTE network.

Once the testing has reached a sufficiently advanced stage, Telkom Mobile will then have to enter into discussions with Apple before it can offer the new iPhone on its LTE network.
