Movies coming to Sony Xperia Z smartphones in SA

Sony

Sony South Africa has announced that it will be launching a movie download service in March 2014 along with the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact.

Speaking to media at an event in Johannesburg on Thursday, 13 February 2014, Sony SA’s head of marketing Andrew Fraser said that the service will be called Xperia Privileged Movies and will be available through Sony’s Xperia Lounge.

Xperia Z1 Compact owners will be given 6 free movie downloads and will be able to choose from 10 different Sony Pictures blockbusters, Fraser said.

While the full line-up will be confirmed closer to launch, Fraser said he was able to confirm that Captain Phillips will definitely be available for download when the Xperia Z1 Compact launches in March.

Asked whether Xperia Privileged Movies will be made available to other Sony devices, Fraser said that it would make its way to other Xperia Z devices, but would launch on the Z1 Compact.

It is also not yet confirmed whether new movies will be added to the service over time, or if it will eventually be possible to buy more.
