Microsoft has sent out e-mails to Office 365 subscribers in South Africa to let them know that their subscription fees are set to increase from 7 May 2014.
“Microsoft periodically assesses the impact of its local pricing to ensure there is a reasonable alignment with the needs of customers, partners, and the marketplace, and may make changes in response to its assessment and feedback,” the email said.
Users received different e-mails based on the type of subscription they have, with one stating that the annual fees for Office 365 Home will increase from R749.99 to R949.99.
The monthly fee of the Home edition of Office 365 is similarly set to increase from R74.99 to R94.99.
These new prices are applicable to new and renewing subscribers that buy these services in Rand directly from Microsoft, the software giant’s e-mail said.
“Your Office 365 Home subscription will reflect a higher price beginning with your next payment from 7th May,” Microsoft said.
Microsoft South Africa was contacted for comment about the price increase and whether other Office 365 packages would also be affected, but did not provide answers by the time of publication.
Update: Microsoft SA has confirmed that the local price adjustment is due to exchange rate fluctuations.
