iOS 8 launch date unveiled
iDevice owners will be able to download the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 8, from 17 September 2014, Apple’s head of marketing Phil Schiller has said.
The update includes a number of new features which Apple announced at its World Wide Developer Conference in June 2014.
These include “Quick Type”, interactive notifications, better integration for OS X, group messaging and location sharing in iMessage, new gestures in the mail app, and improvements to Siri.
Third-party keyboards like Swype will also be supported on devices that run iOS 8, and app developers will be able to expose functionality in their applications to other apps, including the iOS share menu.
iOS 8 will be available as a free software update for the iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5s, iPod touch 5th generation, iPad 2, iPad with Retina display, iPad Air, iPad mini, and iPad mini with Retina display.
