Android 6.0 Marshmallow
Google has unveiled the title of its new version of Android using a statue at its headquarters. Called Marshmallow, it will replace Android Lollipop.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow was first unveiled at Google I/O on 28 May, and is set to be released in the third quarter of 2015.
Android Marshmallow will introduce a redesigned permission model with only eight permission categories, and permissions will not automatically be granted.
An opt-in system is now used, in which users are prompted to grant or deny individual permissions to an application when they are needed.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow will also provide native support for fingerprint recognition, and a new power management scheme will reduce a device’s background activity.
Marshmallow supports USB Type-C, including the ability to instruct devices to charge another device over USB.
