Google Hangouts on Android gets video messaging

Google is rolling out the ability to record and send video messages in Hangouts to its Android platform, 9to5Google reported.

Hangouts users on iOS have had the feature since February 2014.

The update to Google Hangouts on Android (version 11) is not on Google Play yet, but 9to5Google said the APK has made its way to the web.

While the feature is enabled in the app, it does not work at the moment.

Google has also updated the iOS version to increase the maximum length of video messages from 1 minute to 2 minutes, and the ability to kick someone out of a Hangouts group.

The ability to merge SMS and Hangouts conversations in the Android version has been removed from version 11.

According to the report, Google said it did this because it caused confusion and had low usage.
