You’ve been using emoji the wrong way
Emoji are hugely popular on messaging platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.
The little faces and symbols are used to express emotion difficult to describe in a short message, and are also used to convey tone.
The use of an emoji is often determined by the user’s interpretation of what the icon means – which is not always what it was designed for.
Fortunately, users can reference the Emojipedia or the Unicode emoji charts if they are unsure.
Below are some of the more commonly-used emoji, and what emotions or scenarios they were designed to convey.
Savouring delicious food
Offering a hug
Sweating while happy
Open-eye kissing
No comment/emotion
Always silent
Tired and fed up
Relief and being content
Confused
Goofy, silly
Dizzy or astonished
Unfavourable situation or grimace
Japanese ogre, Namahage – used to ward off evil spirits
Pile of poo – well, you’re probably using this one correctly
