The most accurate lip-reading software ever made

face

Researchers from Google’s AI division DeepMind have created the most accurate lip-reading software ever made.

Working in partnership with the University of Oxford, the team trained a neural network to annotate video footage with 46.8% accuracy.

This was done using thousands of hours of TV footage from the BBC.

The software was then tested against a professional human lip-reader, who scored 12.4% accuracy on the same footage.

DeepMind’s software is called “Watch, Listen, Attend, and Spell”.
