Windows 7 is still the operating system of choice

Windows 7 is still the operating system of choice for desktop PC users, according to NetMarketShare’s January 2017 figures.

Despite Microsoft running an aggressive free Windows 10 upgrade campaign, the new OS is in second place – still some way behind Windows 7.

Windows XP claimed third place in the rankings – beating Windows 8.1, Mac OS X 10.12, and Linux.

Collectively, Windows operating systems held over 90% of the desktop OS market share in January.
