Facebook launches Messenger Lite in South Africa

Facebook has launched its Messenger Lite app for Android devices in South Africa.

The streamlined app is a standalone Messenger alternative aimed at users with older smartphones or slow Internet connections.

Messenger Lite is smaller than 10MB, making it easier to install and faster to start up than the standard Messenger application, said Facebook.

The app lets users send photos, text, and links to Messenger or Messenger Lite users.

Messenger Lite uses the same bolt logo as Messenger, but the bolt is blue with a white chat bubble background – as opposed to a white bolt with a blue background.
