Amazon has banned the sale of media boxes which promote or facilitate piracy, the company announced.
“Products offered for sale on Amazon should not promote, suggest the facilitation of, or actively enable the infringement of or unauthorized access to digital media or other protected content,” said Amazon.
“Any streaming media player or other device that violates this policy is prohibited from sale on Amazon.”
According to a report by TorrentFreak, the move will target vendors which sell loaded “Kodi boxes” and media players which are geared towards illegal streaming.
The report noted that while Kodi is a neutral platform, the service is used by third-party players to create “ultimate pirate machines”.
Amazon stated that if a vendor knowingly sells products which contravene its standards, its selling privileges will be revoked and its infringing stock destroyed without compensation.
