MP3 is dead
The MP3 format is dead, according to a report by Engadget.
The report stated that The Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits, the institute which created the format, has terminated licensing for multiple MP3-related patents.
The institute did not want to “keep it on life support” as there are better ways to store music – including AAC.
Advanced Audio Coding is now the “de facto standard for music download and videos on mobile phones” said the institute.
It is more efficient and has greater functionality, it stated, and will take the place of the MP3 format.
