Amazon launches cloud-based 3D editor

Amazon Web Services AWS

Amazon Web Services has launched Amazon Sumerian, a cloud-based service which allows developers to build VR apps for mobile devices, browsers, and VR headsets.

Sumerian lets developers build applications without requiring any specialised programming or 3D graphics expertise, and can be accessed from a web browser.

The editor allows users to import 3D objects into scenes and includes features such as scripting, animation, and integration with Amazon’s cloud services.

Once a developer has created a 3D scene, they can publish and run it on a number of platforms – including Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and iOS.

Published scenes are stored in the cloud and accessible anywhere using a URL.
