Firefox 7

Summary: Firefox 7 was launched recently, promising better memory management for an improved browsing experience.

Mozilla recently announced the release an update for its Firefox web browser for Windows, Mac, and Linux that promises better memory management for a “nimble web browsing experience.”

According to Mozilla, Firefox 7:

  • Is faster at opening new tabs, clicking on menu items, and buttons on websites.
  • Will perform better when lots of tabs are open.
  • Will perform better during long browsing sessions of hours and days.
  • Has a new version of hardware-accelerated HTML5 Canvas.
  • Supports the W3C navigation timing spec API.

Mozilla said that the W3C navigation timing spec API offers developers the following:

  • Measure page load time and website navigation against bandwidth speed, website traffic, and other factors.
  • Test user experiences remotely.
  • Optimise websites and Web apps for different types of users.

At the time of writing Firefox’s update manager didn’t detect the upgrade to Firefox 7, but it could still be downloaded directly from Mozilla’s website.
