ChatGPT rolling out voice chat feature to all users
OpenAI is rolling out ChatGPT voice conversations to all free users on its mobile app, according to an announcement from co-founder Greg Brockman.
The company introduced voice conversations for ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise subscribers on Android and iOS in September 2023.
“ChatGPT Voice rolled out for all free users. Give it a try — totally changes the ChatGPT experience,” said Brockman.
The ChatGPT Voice feature lets users choose a voice in the chatbot app from five personas with names such as “Juniper”, “Breeze”, and “Ember”.
ChatGPT will then produce audio from its generated text using the user’s selected voice.

OpenAI released the ChatGPT app in May 2023, offering voice-to-text capabilities that let users talk to the bot.
With the addition of voice conversation capabilities, ChatGPT could give users the impression that they are having a more human conversation.
We tested the voice conversation on the ChatGPT app for iOS. To access the feature, users must tap the headphone icon in the bottom left corner of the chat interface.
Doing so for the first time will let you choose from one of the five personas. Thereafter, the app immediately starts connecting to the voice conversation interface when you tap on the icon.
From there, users can start a conversation with the chatbot, and it will respond in the voice of their persona of choice.
